Pictures from the first English-Albanian Dictionary are made public – The Dictionary is now part of the Royal Historical Museum

In a special meeting, today the granddaughter of the scholar Idris Ruka, Estela Ruka M.D. , has donated to the Albanian Royal Family, represented by Prince Leka II, the original, 60-year-old manuscript of the dictionary, which will now be part of the Historical Museum of the Albanian Royal Family.
There is a quite unusual story behind the first English-Albanian dictionary. It was written by the renowned scholar Idris Ruka in the time period between 1945 and 1965, while he was imprisoned in Burreli’s Prison. His work, which is now considered a National Treasure was written in very unfavorable conditions.
The dictionary, written by Idris Ruka in the 20 years he lived in Burreli’s Prison, contains 55 thousand words, and now comes in handy to all who read, write and interact in Albanian and English. The manuscripts of his work, for years, have been protected with much pride and fanaticism by Idris Rukas descendants.
